Summary of International School on Atomic and Molecular Data Evaluation and Curation
Between the 22nd and the 25th of October 2023, the first International School on Atomic and Molecular Data Evaluation and Curation (ISAMDEC) was held at the Palacio de Congresos Conde Ansúrez, of the University of Valladolid. It was organized by our research group, in collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Valladolid, the University of Valladolid and the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (Research grant No. PID2019-108764RB-I00).
During this school, 34 students from 17 different countries came together in Valladolid to learn from experts in the field, about atomic and molecular calculations and experiments, as well as how to operate within the currently existing databases. Seven speakers from four different institutions, including two members of our research group, delivered lectures covering a wide arrange of topics from uncertainty calculations to FAIR data principles and database operation.
We want to thank all the speakers for their participation and for their fundamental contributions to the ISAMDEC:
- Yuri Ralchenko (National Institute of Standards and Technology – NIST)
- Gillian Nave (National Institute of Standards and Technology – NIST)
- Alexander Kramida (National Institute of Standards and Technology – NIST)
- Teruca Belmonte (Universidad de Valladolid – UVa)
- Christian Hill (International Atomic Energy Agency – IAEA)
- Christopher Fontes (Los Alamos National Laboratory – LANL)
- Gabriel Pérez-Callejo (Universidad de Valladolid – UVa)

During the school, the participants also visited the Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy laboratories of our research group, and discussed the experimental activities and measurements that are being carried out in the field of atomic and molecular data at the University of Valladolid.

Below we include some additional photographs of the school. We want to thank all participants for attending and engaging in the very rich discussions that arose during the lectures and exercises. We hope that the community generated at this school keeps growing, and that we can see everyone again at future editions of the ISAMDEC!
